Privacy Policy
How Togra collects, uses, shares and protects your information, across the Togra app, our website and everything we offer.
Last updated
In short
- Togra shows where things are, not where people are: nobody on Togra sees your location.
- Your phone uses your location to check that you’ve reached something. We keep that proof for minutes to days, never as a history of where you’ve been.
- We never sell your personal data, and we never sell anyone’s location or movements.
- Private messages and calls are never used for ads, ranking or training AI models, and we never record ordinary calls.
- We use cookies and similar technologies to run Togra, keep it secure and improve it. The ones we don’t need, we use only with your consent where the law requires it.
- You can see, download, correct and delete your data, and you can complain to Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner or your own regulator.
1.Who we are
Togra (“Togra”, “we”, “us”) makes a social network built around real places. We are based in Nairobi, Kenya, and we are responsible for the personal data described in this policy.
This policy covers everything Togra offers: the Togra apps for iPhone, Android and the web, our website, our emails and newsletter, Togra for creators and businesses, and any Togra platform or developer services. Where a feature has extra rules, we tell you where you use it.
Questions about this policy or your data: hello@togra.space.
2.What you give us
- Account details: your name, username, email address, phone number, date of birth or age band, profile photo, and how you sign in (for example with Google, Apple or a passkey).
- What you make and share: Drops, Posts, messages, voice notes, photos, videos, comments, reactions, Trails, capsules and anything you leave to a place, with the places, audiences, times and conditions you choose for them.
- Your connections: friends, people you follow, Circles, groups and chats, and the people you block or mute.
- Calls: who you call and when, and how long the call lasted. The content of an ordinary private call is never recorded.
- Places you label for yourself, like Home and Work. Only you can see them.
- Contacts, if you choose to find friends from your phone’s contacts. We use them only to show you who is already on Togra.
- Reports and appeals you send us, and anything you write to us.
- Purchases: your plan, credits, Time Drops, and what you buy or sell through Togra. Payments are handled by our payment providers; we never receive or store your full card number or mobile money PIN.
- Creator and business details: your business or brand name, place, offers, Claims and payout details, if you use those tools.
3.Location and presence
Togra is built around places, so it uses your device’s location, but only when it needs it and only in these ways:
- to check that you’ve reached something left for you, and open it;
- to show what’s around you on the map, if you choose to use your location there;
- to open something together when everyone has arrived;
- to send you nearby alerts, only if you turn them on;
- to keep Togra fair and safe, for example by noticing when a location is being faked.
When you open something at a place, we keep the proof that you were there for minutes to days, for safety and to stop cheating, and then delete it. We don’t build a history of where you’ve been, and nobody on Togra, including businesses and advertisers, sees your location. A Drop’s place is where the Drop is, never where you are.
You can turn location off in your device’s settings at any time. Togra still works for messages, Posts and your Feed; things that open at a place stay waiting until you allow it again.
4.What we collect automatically
- Device and app information: device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone and a device identifier.
- How you use Togra: which features you use, what you open and when, in pseudonymous form, so we can understand what works and fix what doesn’t.
- Diagnostics: crash reports, errors and performance measurements, so we can find and fix problems.
- Log information: IP address, request times and security events, kept for a limited time to protect Togra and its people.
Analytics and diagnostics never include your messages, the content of your calls, your precise location or your contact details.
6.AI features
If you speak a Drop out loud, we turn your voice note into a draft for you to check. If you ask the map a question, Togra answers only from what you are already allowed to see. If you ask Togra to draft a Trail or an experience, it uses what you tell it and the places you can see.
What you say to these features is used to answer you. It is never used to advertise to you. Your private messages, calls and precise location are never used to train AI models. When we use AI providers to run these features, they may process your request only to answer it, under contracts that forbid them from using it to train their own models.
7.How we use your information
- To run Togra: deliver what you leave to the people you chose, open things at the right places, connect your messages and calls, and show you your Map, Feed and Explore.
- To recommend: show you what friends left first, then things worth going to, based on your connections and what you engage with, never on your location history.
- To keep people safe: prevent abuse, fake locations, spam, fraud and harassment, protect young people, and act on reports.
- To improve Togra, using pseudonymous and aggregated information.
- To process payments, subscriptions, credits, Claims and payouts.
- To help creators and businesses understand how what they made did, only in totals, never showing who you are unless you choose to share it.
- To talk to you about your account, and, if you asked for them, send you news and updates.
- To meet our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We use your information because we need it to provide the service you asked for, because you consented (for example to the newsletter, analytics cookies where consent is required, nearby alerts, contacts, or letting friends find you by phone number), because we have a legitimate interest in keeping Togra safe, fair and working, or because the law requires it. You can withdraw consent at any time.
8.What other people see
- Your location: never, to anyone.
- When you open something left for you by name, the person who left it sees that you opened it, when, and that you were at that place. Togra tells you this before you open it. They never see where you were before or after.
- When you open something together, the others see that you have arrived, and nothing more.
- When you open a public Drop, whoever left it sees only how many people opened it, later and in round numbers.
- Your profile, Posts and public Drops, according to the settings you choose.
- A place’s past holds only what people chose to leave to that place, and only after its time on the map. People look back through a place, never through a person.
9.Things we never do
- Sell your personal data.
- Sell or share anyone’s location, or a history of where they’ve been.
- Record ordinary private calls, or use private messages or calls for advertising, for deciding what you see, or for training AI models.
- Aim anything commercial at young people, or share their details with businesses.
- Tell a business who you are, unless you choose to share your name with it.
- Let anyone pay to Ping you, or to see where you are.
11.Where your data is stored
Togra’s data is stored primarily in the European Union, in Ireland, and our providers may process it in other countries, including the United States. When data leaves Kenya or the country you are in, we protect it as the law requires, including with contracts that hold our providers to the same standard.
12.How long we keep it
- What you make, for as long as your account exists, unless you delete it sooner.
- Proof that you were at a place, for minutes to days.
- Call details, only as long as your conversation history shows them.
- Analytics, diagnostics and security logs, for limited periods.
- Your newsletter address, until you unsubscribe.
- Payment and tax records, for as long as the law requires.
- Backups, on rolling windows. When you delete something, it is removed from backups as they expire, and a deletion is never undone by restoring a backup.
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your information across our systems and our providers’. Messages you already sent may remain in the other person’s conversation, shown as from a deleted account.
13.Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- see the personal data we hold about you and download a copy;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete it, or delete your account;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, for anything that relies on it, including cookies;
- ask a person to review a decision that affects you and was made automatically.
Most of this you can do in the app. For anything else, write to hello@togra.space. We answer within the time the law requires. If you are unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, or to the data protection authority where you live.
14.Young people
Togra is for people aged 13 and over. In Kenya, a parent or guardian must agree before anyone aged 13 to 17 can use Togra, and in other countries we follow the local age of consent. Young people get safer defaults, their details are never shared with businesses, and nothing commercial is aimed at them. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we delete it.
15.A place’s past, capsules and Legacy
Nothing joins a place’s past unless you chose to leave it to the place. It joins only after its public time on the map, and you decide whether your name stays with it. Togra may keep it in the place’s past and include it in collections and exhibitions of how places were lived. You can take back anything you left.
Capsules stay sealed until the time you chose, and open only for the people you chose.
With Legacy you decide what of yours stays when you are no longer here, and who looks after it. Your choices can be changed at any time.
16.How we protect it
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, limit who at Togra can access personal data, and log that access. The most sensitive information, like precise location, message content and payment details, is kept separately with stricter controls. We test our systems and watch them around the clock. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
17.Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change matters, we tell you before it takes effect, in the app or by email.
18.Contact us
Write to hello@togra.space. A person reads every message. For the short version of how Togra treats places and people, see Privacy.
